What’s Next for Clean Energy Marketing in 2025?

By Tyrell Lisson, Managing Director at Big Red Oak

The clean energy landscape is changing faster than ever, and the way we talk about it needs to evolve just as quickly. As we head into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on what should guide our campaigns this year. This is a pivotal moment—a chance to shape how people engage with and contribute to the clean energy movement in meaningful ways.

So, what’s next? Here are the steps I’m prioritizing with clients this year to drive real impact and progress.

1. From Awareness to Action

Let’s be honest: Awareness alone doesn’t cut it anymore. Most people already know clean energy is important. What they’re asking now is, What can I do about it?

This year, the standout campaigns will be the ones that move beyond education and focus on empowerment. It’s been a rough few years, and people are focused on what can actually be realistically done. It will be about giving people practical, tangible ways to take action—whether it’s signing up for a community solar program, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, or volunteering for a local clean energy initiative. The goal is to transform curiosity into commitment and interest into impact.

👉 For marketers: Make your messaging actionable. Focus on simple, achievable steps your audience can start today. Think less "dream big" and more "start small."

2. The Power of Local Stories

Clean energy may be a global movement, but it’s the local stories and people that truly hit home. A solar installation powering a community centre or a wind farm rejuvenating a small-town economy can resonate in a way that abstract statistics never will.

In 2025, the most effective campaigns will lean into these stories, showing how clean energy creates real, positive change in people’s own communities. By making the movement personal and relatable, marketers can foster a deeper emotional connection with their audience.

👉 For marketers: Localize your storytelling. Share the wins happening in neighbourhoods, towns, and regions that your audience knows and cares about. This approach not only builds trust but also drives engagement.

3. Collaboration as a Competitive Edge

I saw this becoming a focus last year, and we should push it this year.  Clean energy progress will be all about partnerships. Governments, businesses, nonprofits, and communities are coming together in unprecedented ways to tackle climate challenges. These collaborations are where real innovation and adoption are happening.

Marketing that highlights these efforts will stand out. People want to see what’s possible when different groups join forces—whether it’s a utility company teaming up with tech startups to improve grid efficiency or cities partnering with nonprofits to meet ambitious sustainability goals.

👉 For marketers: Shine a spotlight on partnerships and collective wins. Collaboration doesn’t just inspire—it proves that meaningful progress comes from teamwork.

Looking Ahead

2025 has the potential to be a breakthrough year for clean energy marketing. By shifting the focus to action, celebrating local success stories, and emphasizing the power of collaboration, we can help shape a narrative that drives real, measurable change.

At Big Red Oak, we’re already putting these ideas into practice, helping our clients create campaigns that connect, inspire, and lead. Reach out to learn more.
